Düsseldorf, 25 October 2017 — viewneo has released an application for Zapier, opening digital signage to automation and the internet of things through a free software interface that connects the viewneo content management system to thousands of other web services.
Zapier acts as a translator between the interfaces of popular web applications such as Gmail, Slack, and Zendesk — much like IFTTT. The viewneo app brings that ease of integration to digital signage for the first time: where changes previously had to be programmed by hand, a “Zap” can now trigger content automatically, or an event in viewneo can trigger an action elsewhere.
The practical possibilities are broad. Dashboards can pull KPIs from tools such as Salesforce, Magento, or WooCommerce; social channels can push their latest posts straight onto a screen; and content can react to context — showing an umbrella advert when rain is forecast, or a convertible when temperatures climb. Linking viewneo to a cloud drive lets a user send a file from a phone directly to a display.
“The actions triggered in Zapier can be selected for each Zap, and an event set in viewneo can trigger an action in another application — for example, an alert if a device group goes offline. The possibilities are limited only by the user’s imagination.” — Sebastian Neumann, Developer at Adversign Media
The integration reflects viewneo’s wider direction toward connected, automated experiences — the same thinking behind the platform’s plugin catalogue, which extends viewneo with calendars, data feeds, social channels, and more. The Zapier app was made available free of charge from January 2018.
