API + viewneo

Connect any application to viewneo via REST API so content updates, playlist changes and device commands happen automatically.

What the API plugin does

The viewneo API plugin is a REST API integration that gives your development team direct access to the viewneo CMS endpoints — so content updates, playlist changes, and device commands happen from your own software without anyone opening the dashboard. This turns viewneo into a programmable display layer that sits inside your existing technology stack.

A common starting point is linking a Point of Sale system so that a product selling out triggers an immediate playlist change, removing that item from screen. The same approach works for booking systems, inventory platforms, and internal dashboards. If you prefer a no-code route, the Zapier plugin covers many of the same automation scenarios without writing a line of code.

How it works

  1. Activate the plugin — enable the API plugin from your viewneo account and generate an OAuth 2.0 client credential in the dashboard settings.
  2. Call the REST endpoints — send authenticated HTTPS requests to create, update, or delete content, playlists, device groups, and schedules. The full reference is published at github.com/viewneo/viewneo-api.
  3. Trigger updates from your systems — wire a webhook or scheduled job in your application to call the API whenever content should change. viewneo picks up the change and pushes it to the relevant screens within seconds.

Example use cases

  • Retail POS integration — when a product reaches zero stock, the POS sends an API call that removes it from the in-store promotion playlist automatically.
  • Corporate communications — an HR system pushes emergency announcements to all lobby screens in real time without a signage manager logging in.
  • Event venues — a ticketing platform updates schedule displays as sessions are added, moved, or cancelled, keeping information accurate without manual edits.

Compatible with

  • viewneo Professional and viewneo Enterprise — bookable per player, transferable to other players
  • Any HTTP client or server-side language (REST + JSON)
  • OAuth 2.0-capable integration frameworks
  • Full REST API access

Read and write to all core CMS endpoints — playlists, content, devices, schedules — from any HTTP client.

  • OAuth 2.0 authentication

All API calls are authorised via OAuth 2.0, keeping your credentials and screen data secure.

  • Automate with your existing tools

Trigger playlist changes from your POS, ERP or booking software without manual steps in the viewneo dashboard.

  • Developer documentation included

A public API reference on GitHub covers every endpoint with request and response examples.

A display above a grocery checkout shows a strawberry promotion marked Today only, updated automatically.

On screen

Content driven by your own systems

The API plugin lets any application push content, swap playlists, and send device commands to viewneo screens automatically via REST.

Frequently asked questions

What does the API plugin cost?
$4.20 per player and month or $42.00 per player and year — depending on whether your subscription is billed monthly or yearly. The plugin can be booked from viewneo Professional, is enabled free of charge during the 30-day trial and can be re-assigned to another player at any time. All prices are on the pricing page.
Do I need a developer key to use the API?
Yes. Once the plugin is activated on your account, you generate an OAuth 2.0 client ID and secret in the viewneo dashboard. No separate sign-up is required.
How is data shared between my application and viewneo?
Your application sends HTTPS requests to the viewneo REST API hosted on viewneo's EU servers. No screen content or personal data leaves the viewneo platform unless you explicitly push it via your integration.
