Butler-compatible smart devices

The viewneo Butler speaks Zigbee, so it works with smart lamps, sockets, sensors, and switches from brands you already know.

Devices for the viewneo Butler

The viewneo Butler is a Zigbee gateway, so it connects to a wide range of smart home devices alongside viewneo’s own accessories. This page lists devices known to work with the Butler for interactive and sensory digital signage. Connect them through viewneo Enterprise and the Smart Playlist plugin, and screen content can switch lamps, trigger sockets, and react to motion or a button press.

Smart sockets

  • viewneo Smart Plug (viewneo / Adversign Media GmbH) — a radio-controlled socket that switches any electrical device (lamps, motors) in sync with screen content via the viewneo CMS. For example, a lamp can switch on the moment a customer selects a product on a touch screen. See the Butler.

Lamps and LED strips

  • Philips Hue — all LED smart lamps and Lightstrips in the Philips Hue series are compatible.
  • Osram Lightify — all lamps in the Osram Lightify series work. Note: Osram has switched off its own cloud for these products, but used with the viewneo Butler the Osram cloud is not required.
  • Xiaomi Yeelight — all RGB or white LED lamps from Xiaomi Yeelight can be used.

Sensors

  • Aqara human motion sensor — detects movement within a radius so content can respond when someone approaches a stele or monitor; uses an infrared sensor for precise detection.
  • IKEA TRÅDFRI motion sensor — the wireless motion detector from IKEA is fully compatible with the Butler.
  • Aqara temperature and humidity sensor — lets content react to the environment, for example showing specific content at a certain ambient temperature.

Switches and buttons

  • IKEA TRÅDFRI wireless dimmer — beyond dimming lamps, a viewer can use a value from 1 to 100 to indicate satisfaction with a service.
  • Aqara wireless mini switch — a battery-powered button placed anywhere to change screen content; in smart stores, useful for product selection.
  • Aqara wall switch (flush or surface-mounted) — for permanent installations; mains-powered (110–240 V), not battery-operated.

Relay modules

  • Zigbee relay modules — inline switches for existing installations, used for example to drive motorised screens or screen lifts from a Butler event.

How do you add a device to the Butler?

Any of these devices is paired from the CMS: put the device into pairing mode (a smart plug usually by holding its button until the LED blinks rapidly, a smart bulb by switching it off and on several times in quick succession), then start Add Device in the Butler settings and give the device a clear name. Pair one device at a time and keep it close to the Butler during pairing; afterwards, it can move to its final position. Other Zigbee networks or Wi-Fi routers on the 2.4 GHz band can interfere, so move the devices apart if pairing fails.

How it fits in your stack

Pair these devices with the viewneo Butler and the viewneo 4K Signagebox to build interactive installations. For viewneo’s own smart store sensors, see the RFID system, the PWS Pegs, and the smart store module overview.
